Street Help have been patrolling our streets for over 20 years.
Street Help is part of the Get Smart Tauranga Charitable Trust. Every Friday and Saturday night, 3 - 6 volunteers prepare hot food & drinks and take to the streets of Tauranga, offering pies and hot drinks to predominantly the youth of Tauranga. We work alongside the police and other agencies to try and have a positive impact on the community of Tauranga in an effort to keep our children and safe from the harmful effects of alochol and drugs.
Originally founded by Rev Fergus Hume & Pastor Russell Turner in 1991, Drug Arm, as it was called then, was established in order to provide a good samaritan service to the growing problem of alochol and drug abuse on our city streets. For a great insight into this ministry, have a quick read of "The Early Days" by Max Brew who has been with Street Help/Get Smart Tauranga for over 20 years.
We are always looking for volunteers, so if you would like to make a difference in your community please view our volunteer information.
